The USS Enterprise was the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier ever built. Know as the "Big E" and measuring 1,123 ft., it was the longest naval vessel ever launched. Built between 1958 and 1961 the ship was the only carrier in it's class. The Enterprise then saw action in all the major conflicts in the world until December of 2012. It took a crew of 4000 sailors to man the Enterprise while in service. This USS Enterprise was the eight ship in the U.S. Navy to be givin this title. The ship first saw action during the Cuban Missle Crisis as part of Task Force 135 which formed a blockade to prevent further missle deliveries. After 55 years of service the Enterprise was decommissioned in Febuary 2017. During its service period the ship could hold up to 90 aircraft and was protected by the most advanced radar and missle systems.
