Make Kite Flying A Hobby

Kites have been around for so many years with the earliest records of kites being from the Chinese about 2,800 years ago. Despite their age, kites are still are extremely popular. Millions of people and cultures around the world embrace kite flying as a special part of their life - and they have good reason to do so.

Picking up kite flying as a hobby has benefits for young and old

Children get to exert their energy sprinting and releasing kites into the air. Parents get to step away from their careers and busy lives to wind down by watching a beautiful kite float flawlessly in the sky. The combination of fresh air, physical activity and peaceful interaction with nature make kite flying such a rewarding hobby for any age.

It all starts with selecting a kite that fits the flyer's needs and level of experience

Kite Flying

If you are new to kite flying it is easy to get overwhelmed, especially considering we have over 250 kites to choose from. Start here with this beginners guide to kite flying and we can help make your selection easy.

The next step is to get outside and start flying - preferably on a windy day! Head to a community park where you are likely to meet other kite flyers who share your interest. Attend community festivals to learn more about the different kinds of kites, connect with others and possibly even build your own.

As your kite flying skills improve consider moving up to more advanced kites. For example you can make the switch from kite flyer to kite pilot by learning the ropes of a stunt or sport kite. These kites give you the ability to do tricks and, with experience, completely control the kite in the air. We have just added two new sport kites to our selection, SkyDog Kites' new Power Foils. With two handles, these powerful kites demand experience. However, with a few tips you can have them ripping through the air in no time.

I was inspired to write this blog because of the upcoming Burlington Kite Festival. We are extremely passionate about kite flying here and would love for others to join this awesome community.

Check out our selection of kites. Hope to see yours in the air soon!
